Edwardian/"Titanic" Hats
"The Rose" is created from a pattern published in 1906. The original is the photo gallery (click the photo to go to the
gallery.) Completely handmade, this hat has a net and wire
base with the brim covered in vintage straw braid. The
crown is decorated with a length of pink taffeta with a pink
taffeta bow, my handmade silk roses and cotton leaves and
a swath of white cotton net. The underside of the brim is
covered with eggshell cotton lace.
"The Rose" is intended to
sit atop the head, not down on the head like modern hats.
Hat pins are required to keep this hat in place. One
vintage button-type white hat pin is included. More are
available here.
This style is perfect for your Edwardian wedding or for
ladies who do tea and want to stand out from the rank and file.

"The Rose" as shown, $300. This style can be custom
made for you in other colors. |

"La Violette" is the second in my series of hats based on
original 1906 patterns. All hand-crafted, the hat body is a
fancy woven straw over a wire frame. The outer brim is swathed
in vintage English tulle with a festoon of baby blue silk
taffeta and bunches of my handmade cotton and silk violets with
cotton velvet leaves. The underbrim is faced with cotton
lace and features another bunch of violets in the back.
The lining is silk taffeta. One vintage white glass
button-head hat pin is included. Additional hat pins can be
found in the accessories section of the Mercantile, click here..
This hat longs to be paired with a lovely white cotton
lawn lingerie dress for afternoon tea parties in the garden.

"La Violette," as shown, $300. This style can be
custom made for you in other colors.

"Grace" is fashioned using the same pattern as "La
Violette." The wired black straw body is draped with black
silk gauze and decorated with vintage satin striped silk bows,
handmade silk roses and a vintage Edwardian compound ostrich
plume. The underbrim is faced with vintage cotton lace.
Grace is suitable for the society matron and cooler weather and
can be worn a little farther forward, if desired. The
roses are pinned in place and can be easily changed for a more
somber occasion. One vintage glass button hat pin is
included with this elegant hat. Additional hat pins can be
found in the accessories section of the Mercantile, click here..
